Emiel Veranneman was born into an artistic family. His uncle was Constant Permeke. After studying architecture at the Sint-Lukas Institute in Ghent, he studied interior design with Henry van de Velde and became internationally known as an interior designer, furniture designer and art dealer.
He was the founder of the Veranneman Foundation in Kruishoutem, a center for contemporary art. Over time, he focused more on furniture design. He designed furniture for the World Exhibition in Montreal and in 1979 designed the Belgian pavilion at the World Exhibition in Osaka in Japan.
